According to the minutes of March 14, 1956, during the first twenty-six years, $3675.74 had been spent from the scholarship fund. This includes scholarships awards, cost of bank drafts, and a little postage. As of that time, the ODMEA had given financial assistance to 20 college students and paid tuition for two high school pupils. The college scholarships ranged from $50-$400. There had been 11 girls and nine boys in this group. At this point, students signed a promise to pay back one third of the awarded amount, but it was not a legal obligation, and several did not.
